One of the reasons home tours are so interesting is because they provide a peek into the homeowner’s personality. Much like the contents of a bag, you can tell a lot about a person by how they choose to decorate their homes, and perhaps especially so when it comes to bookshelves and coffee tables. Are you a traveler? A collector? A hipster? I mean, The Coveteur has a whole guide on judging people by their coffee table selections… because isn’t that sort of the appeal of the coffee table book? To showcase your fabulous tastes to all your guests (and, let’s be honest, Instagram followers)?

Collect enough of them and they don’t even have to live on a coffee table…you could repurpose a bar cart as a sort of mini-library, as in the photo above. Bonus points for sticking a pair of shoes on top of the stack for a total fashion-girl decor moment.

A cohesive collection of coffee-table books is always impressive, too, whether it’s in terms of topic or color scheme. How chic is the above stack of black and white tomes with that gold pig?
Really, though, a coffee table book selection is incredibly personal, and should be driven by your own personal tastes and interests. Below are five of my top picks, with a distinctly decor and fashion focus:
Domino: The Book of Decorating: A Room-by-Room Guide to Creating a Home That Makes You Happy
The Trench Book
Elements of Style: Designing a Home & a Life
The Little Dictionary of Fashion: A Guide to Dress Sense for Every Woman
The Fashion Book: New and Expanded Edition
Have you started collecting coffee table books? What are some of your favorites?
