Girl Power VMAs Playlist – Abigail Nora

A lot happened at the 2016 MTV VMAs last night (including Kanye, of course), but girl power seemed to be a theme of the evening. From the performances to the awards, women kind of dominated. Highlights — in no particular (and definitely not chronological) order — include:

  • Rihanna performing a career-spanning cavalcade of hits before being awarded the Michael Jackson Vanguard award, presented to her by a very adorable Drake
  • Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande schooling all our workout routines and basically doing a Flywheel / Soulcycle class on stage
  • Britney’s back (bitch)
  • The #FinalFive met Beyoncé and reacted like most of us would (aka very excitedly)
  • And, of course, Beyoncé performed some of the biggest hits from her stunning visual album Lemonade, ending with her dancers lying on stage in what was either the female sign or a tribute to Prince (or both)

So, I thought, what better way to energize your Monday than to listen to songs by some of this year’s badass girl boss VMA award winners, nominees and performers? We run this mother, after all.

Speaking of running this mother, Beyoncé’s Lemonade still isn’t available on Spotify, but I did include a couple of songs from the album on this playlist. Hopefully it will hit the streaming service soon… or if you own it, just copy the playlist and add your favorite Beyoncé songs! (I’m partial to Hold Up, Don’t Hurt Yourself, Sorry, Freedom and Formation.)

The playlist isn’t in any particular order, so listening on shuffle is highly encouraged. Enjoy!
