SIX WAYS TO ACHIEVE MORNING ROUTINE #GOALS – A Little Leopard SIX WAYS TO ACHIEVE MORNING ROUTINE #GOALS – A Little Leopard

You know those people who seem like they have their lives so super together? Like, Disney Princess, “birds help me get dressed in the morning” level? I’m so not one of those people…just take a peek at a day in my life for proof. BUT! I really, really want to be one.

I mean, I make my bed 95% of the time and apparently that helps increase productivity and set the tone for your whole day, so at least there’s that?

So, building on my bed-making momentum: I feel like there are elements of an ideal morning routine that are totally attainable. You just have to break it down. Week one: stop hitting snooze. Week two: stop snoozing and drink water. Week three: stop snoozing, drink water, meditate for five minutes. And so on and so forth.

Anyway, here are six things that I think would make an ideal weekday morning routine — all simple enough to be totally achievable. Now I just need to get my butt out of bed on the first alarm!

MEDITATE

So many successful women swear by meditation to help with focus, mindfulness, decreasing stress, mood boosting, winning the lottery, etc etc etc. (I might be making the lottery part up.) And it doesn’t have to take up a huge chunk of time, either: you can find guided meditations in the five minute range. I’ve even used guided meditation apps on my commute if I’m heading into a particularly stressful day of work. Check out the best meditation apps for beginners here to get started.

EXERCISE

Okay, to be fair, this one is definitely not an every single day type of goal, because most days I can hardly get out of bed by 7 a.m., let alone make it to yoga, barre or spin. However! I did try a 7 a.m. SoulCycle class once, and felt seriously amazing for the rest of the day. I’d love to be someone who does a pre-workday workout even once a week… or at least a quick sun salutation after getting out of bed.

VISUALIZE

Apparently, if you take a moment to picture the type of day you’re going to have, it helps impact the type of day you have. You know, an “always look on the bright side of life” type of thing. You can even do it while you’re brushing your teeth — multitasking!

HYDRATE

And not with coffee, but an actual glass of plain old H2O. Or maybe some water and lemon juice and cayenne, if you’re feeling fancy. Staying hydrated benefits your health, your skin, your concentration…you know, all the important stuff. Keep a pretty glass or bottle by your bed to make it an easy morning habit.

BYOC (BREW YOUR OWN COFFEE)

It’s a lot of liquid first thing in the morning, but there’s no way I’m giving up coffee altogether. For one thing, studies have found that drinking (black) coffee actually has health benefits. However, I spend way too much money at coffee shops. I got a Chemex for Christmas, and really need to start putting it to use. Or at least my trusty old Mr. Coffee on busy mornings. It has a timer and everything!

STOP. SNOOZING.

The best for last? I’ve read so many articles about how snoozing throws off your circadian clock and it’s bad for you and stuff, but I still do it. If I just hopped out of bed as soon as I was awake (ish), I’d have 10-30 minutes in the morning to meditate, stretch, or make my own darn coffee. See? It all relates!
