Growing up, I moved a lot. Mostly within the state of Illinois, except for a very brief stint in Ohio. Maybe that’s why the idea of packing up and moving apartments every year (or year and a half) doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to me…until it’s time for the actual process of packing and moving. Let’s be real: that part SUCKS.

Anyway, I’m moving again, and after two and a half years of living alone, I’m getting a roommate! One of my friends from college and I signed the lease on a brand-spanking-new two bedroom apartment with an in-unit washer dryer (!!), gorgeous concrete accents and new finishes, AND she has a dog (!!!). Plus, it will actually be more space overall than both of our studio apartments combined.

Of course, now we’re faced with the packing and organizing tasks of actually getting stuff from point a to point b. It’s super easy to get caught up in the fun of decorating a new space (I highly recommend a shared Pinterest board if you’re decorating with a roommate), but you have to get to the space first.

During my last move and more recent Pinterest procrastinating searching, I picked up some tips and tricks from the pros. Here are some of the best moving tips I plan on using this time around:

+ An oldie-but-a-goodie article from MyDomaine with seven important essentials that are easy to forget in the midst of moving.

+ The co-founders of The Everygirl, Alaina and Danielle, also move a lot, so I trust their tips on how to make moving less stressful.

+ This moving checklist from Real Simple is my bible right now.

+ My roommate Hailey thinks I’m crazy, but I kind of want to sage smudge our apartment and infuse it with ~good vibes~ once we move in. I mean, worst case scenario, it smells good. Here’s a guide from Free People on how to physically and spiritually cleanse a new space.

+ And finally, one of my favorite vloggers, Carly Cristman, just moved from Los Angeles back to Chicago! If she can move cross-country smoothly, while planning a wedding, then I can totally handle a move that’s basically two blocks away. Check out her move with my vlog below:
