Okay so, if you read my previous post on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, you may remember my lofty goal to only buy one or two things that I really need and complement current holes in my wardrobe.
First of all, that’s way easier said than done, especially when S’Well water bottles are a freakin’ STEAL. Second of all, one of the things I really do need is a tote that works from, well, work to weekend and everything in between (like workouts!) Right now I am using a huge Adidas by Stella McCartney bag which I love, but it’s definitely more sporty and casual. And I am obsessed with Louis Vuitton Neverfull GMs, but frankly, I don’t have $1,300 to drop on a tote at the moment. (I don’t have $1,300 to drop on ANYTHING at the moment, actually.)
So, my quest to find the perfect, champagne taste/tap water budget-friendly tote bag began at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale…
Contestant #1: ALLSAINTS Raye Leather Tote
There is SO MUCH I love about this bag, like the unexpected-but-still-neutral olive color, gorgeous pebbled leather, and design details like fringe straps and whipstitching. It also comes with a super chic little pouch that also works as a clutch. However! (There’s always a “however,” isn’t there?) I don’t love the lack of interior pockets, and I worry the bag will be slightly too small for the bajillion things I’m carting around on any given day. It’s also the most expensive option of the three, even on sale.
Contestant #2: Madewell Paint Stripe Transport Tote
A little bit more casual than the other two options, Madewell Transport Totes are a classic, well-loved bag in the blogosphere. I’m a fan of both the “English Saddle” cognac-and-black color combo as well as the charcoal-on-black. The bag has an interior pocket for phone/keys and a roomy capacity that could hold literally my whole life. But… like I said, it’s a little bit more casual than the other two options.
Contestant #3: Rebecca Minkoff Unlined Front Pocket Leather Tote
I actually really like the size of this one (Nordstrom categorizes it as “extra large”), plus the interior and exterior pockets. It doesn’t come with a pouch like the ALLSAINTS Leather Tote, but I am already living that #pouchlife so that’s not really a dealbreaker. In fact, it would easily be the front runner except for one thing: those thin straps supporting this big ol’ bag. I am a total bag lady, which means I frequently cart around a million pouches, a book, a pair of shoes, gym clothes, lean cuisines, water bottles, etc etc etc. I worry that the straps can’t handle my packrat ways, and will wear out pretty quickly. I’m also not sure if I like the black or the olive better, but that’s a personal problem.
So! Which bag would you go with? No, seriously, please let me know in the comments, because I’m really bad at making my own decisions.
(Of course, there’s always Contestant #4: None of the above, and wait for a deal on a bag you really love elsewhere…)
