Okay, no, today isn’t really cancelled, but I wish it were. See, I have no desire to do anything except shop Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access, which started for cardholders and rewards members very, very early this morning.

Why, you are probably asking yourself, are all these darn bloggers making such a big freaking deal about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale??? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s not just because Nordstrom is basically the greatest store on earth (even though it kind of is).

Actually, it’s sort of because of that. Because part of what makes Nordstrom so great IS the Anniversary Sale. You see, brand-new items go on sale. Not end-of-season or past season stuff, but fresh shipment, just hit the racks goods. And there’s something for every price point, too, from designer wares to more mid-range options.

So, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access officially kicks off today for everyone who either has a Nordstrom credit card or signed up for the rewards program. Extra fancy Nordstrom card members who spend beaucoup bucks there got Early Access yesterday, as did fancy-schmancy bloggers. (Unfortunately, I am not a fancy-schmancy blogger…yet.)

Anyway! This sale is so good, all I want to do today is meticulously comb through all the products and hone in on what I want to buy myself. There are tons of great deals, but it’s also super easy to get caught up in sale mania and overspend. And what’s the point of a sale if you spend too much money on it?

So, this year, my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access strategy is to carefully review the available items (shoes! bags! jeans!), evaluate the selection against holes in my wardrobe, and only buy one or two things. It’s going to be a challenge, especially since popular items can sell out quickly, and I have a tendency to think I “need” everything.

Basically, wish me luck, and go check out the sale for yourself. You should probably get a Nordstrom Card or join the rewards program so you can get in on the goods, too.

Otherwise, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public on July 21, and prices go back up August 7. I’ll be sharing some of my picks — and what I purchase — throughout the sale! Because, yes, it really is that big of a deal.

Here are five of the steals and deals that caught my eye on Early Access day one:
