This is 2017’s Biggest Skincare Trend, According to Google

Apparently, Google has finally caught on to how great face masks are… according to their latest report, masks are poised to be one of 2017’s top beauty trends.

I know, I know. “Trending now?” you’re thinking, like the skincare savvy person you are. “Haven’t masks been around for a little bit, now?”

Well, masks first gained steam in Japan, Korea and other Asian countries before piqueing our interest in the U.S. It’s not uncommon for beauty trends to leap from country to country. Interestingly, according to Google’s report, the American obsession with bath bombs is now making its way to France (ooh la la!). But we’re not here to talk about bath bombs.

What’s really interesting about the face mask “trend” is the sheer number of different types of face masks American women are Googling. Sheet masks! Charcoal masks! Masks for blackheads! In fact, the only mask on the “declining” list was sulfur masks. Which makes sense, because ew.

Sheet masks are probably my favorite variety of face mask thanks to their relative affordability, ease of use, and the fact that you look like a mummy while wearing them. Obviously the mummy thing is the best part. I always throw one in my cart when I check out at Sephora, and maybe one of the sheet eye masks to go with it. Dr. Jart+ does a fabulous sheet mast, but I also swear by the Sephora Collection versions!

If I am masking on-the-go (like on a plane), I prefer something a little less obvious, like Glamglow’s Thirstymud Treatment, Fresh’s Rose Face Mask or Aesop’s Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating Masque. I’m also super curious to try Glossier’s mask duo — I loved their serums and love them, so I have to imagine the masks are just as potent and amazing, right? (Reminder: if you have never tried Glossier, use my link for 20% off your first purchase!)

I’ve rounded up some of my tried and true mask favorites below. Are you on board the mask train? I’m super into this trend and always looking for new ones to try, so let me know what your faves are in the comments!
