Day in the Life: Weekday Edition

Disclaimer: this image has nothing to do with my actual day-to-day life. I have a spray tan and I’m in LA, neither of which are normal for me. Coffee, however, is a daily occurrence.

Do you ever read those “day in the life” posts and think to yourself, “lolol there’s no way your life is THAT picturesque”? I know social media is where we all present our best selves, but sometimes these types of posts from bloggers and influencers seem just unattainable and unrealistic. So, in the interest of honesty and full transparency, here is what a typical weekday looks like for me. It’s super glamorous, promise.

6:00 a.m. – My first alarm goes off. I snooze.

7:00 a.m. – My final alarm (of like five total I’m the worst) goes off. I tell myself I will get out of bed in five minutes.

7:45 a.m. – Realize in a panic that it’s definitely been more than five minutes and leap out of bed in a hurry. This happens way more often than it should.

7:50 a.m. – Get ready, re-curl my hair if feeling ambitious, spend too long trying to decide what to wear, grab a Lean Cuisine from my freezer for lunch and thank god I packed my workout clothes and water bottle in my bag the night before.

8:30 a.m. – Oops, I’m supposed to be at the office right now. Luckily my commute is super-short on a good day, pending traffic, when the bus arrives, etc. Head out the door and quickly check when the bus is scheduled on the CTA tracker app. Feel like I’m forgetting something, but just hope I’m not because ain’t nobody got time to check and the bus is in ten minutes! (Literally, I feel like I am forgetting something every single day of the week.)

8:50 a.m. – Order Starbucks from the bus. I am trying to wean myself off of caramel macchiatos because they are so sweet and all that sugar is not the best way to start the morning, but plain lattes are still kind of boring. Lately I’ve been doing a triple shot latte with a raw sugar and some cinnamon. I should probably wean myself off of Starbucks altogether, though. Because dolla dolla bills, y’all. How do I quit you?

9:00 a.m. – (on a late day, 8:30 a.m. on a good day when I am actually on time!) Get into the office, boot up my computer and pray my emails aren’t completely out of control.

9:00 a.m. – Workworkworkworkwork.

Anywhere in the vicinity of noon to 2:00 p.m. – Heat up a Lean Cuisine or other frozen meal for lunch. If I’m feeling splurge-y and/or forgot lunch, I might treat myself to Protein Bar.

Post-lunch to around 6:00 p.m. – Workworkworkworkwork. Our office hours technically end at 5:30 p.m., but I usually stay a little later, especially if I get in late.

6:00 p.m. – leave for barre/Flywheel/ClassPass class of the day. I’ve actually managed to do a morning workout before, but think I actually prefer evening classes because #stressrelief. Sometimes my job can be super stressful, and part of why I like exercise classes so much is because they provide a chance to just let it all go. Also: healthier than a glass of wine every night. I mean, what?

7:30 p.m. – Get home, make something very quick for dinner or eat something I picked up on the way home. Depending on the day, I might draft tomorrow’s blog post (because I am a master procrastinator) or, if that’s done and scheduled, just zone out in front of the TV.

9:45 p.m. – Take shower (and wash my workout clothes!), prep work bag for tomorrow, get ready for bed.

10:30 p.m. – Get in bed, fall asleep anywhere from 10:30 p.m. to midnight. Wake up and do it all again the next day.

See? So super glamorous…but it’s the truth. Look, I would love to be a morning person who gets up and meditates while sipping her morning matcha, but I’m just not there yet. I feel incredibly productive and awesome when I wake up early, but apparently not enough to make it a regular thing.

What about you? What’s a typical day in the life?
